I am a 35yo married and father of twins. I will update the photos once in a while. They were born 3 months early in March of 2008 and went through a tough first 4 months. They are now doing well.

I had 200k before the drop in 2008. I need to set aside around 200k in next 2.5 years to get early retirement.

[x] start taxable portfolio
[ ] 3 months expenses in EF
[ ] 9 months expenses in taxable account
[ ] open college savings account for kids
[ ] dividend income equals half of annual expenses
[ ] pay off 2nd mortgage by 2013
[ ] pay off 1st mortgage by 2026
[ ] finance next car for 3 years or less
[ ] pay cash for my next car around 2016
[ ] start a TIPs 10 year bond ladder by 2016.

New Years resolutions- control or no control?

My wife told me her new years resolution was no hospital stays which last for more than 6 months of the year.

She pointed out that in 2008 half of our year was spent in the hospital. Because it was Jan-June I kind of forgot how tough 2008 was.

Wife was in hospital from late january thru March 30, kids were born March 27 and DS2 came home in late June.

I told her to choose a goal she has control over. I don't want to spend ANY time in 2009 in a hospital, but if I have to spend it, it's not like I can control whether I get admitted or not- if I have to go, I have to go.

I have made it 2 days and have made it through my goals (listed previously) including #4. LOL.

Yes...keep number 4 in check. I'm pretty sure you have some control over that one!

Sounds like your wife is relieved that 2008 is behind her and she can have a fresh start in 2009. Bless her heart, I'd feel the same way if I had spent as much time in the hospital as she had.
