Like their father, my kids could not wait. My wife had an emergency C section on March 27 to deliver 2 boys. My wife was 28 weeks pregnant.
The good news is my wife came home. She had been in hospital since the 20th week of her pregnancy and our house was getting lonely for 8 weeks for me.
The boys are stable in the ICU at a great Neo-natal unit. Within 5 days they were taken off all breathing support (they are breathing on their own). Now we need to see kids grow.
DS1 was born 2 lbs 14 oz and was 2 lbs 11 oz when he was weighed yesterday.
DS2 was born 2 lbs 6 oz and was 2 lbs 3 oz when he was weighed yesterday.
Twins came early

Nic had a lot of problems with apnea. He would slow down his breathing and his heart rate - sometimes into the teens. He scared the crap out of me so many times. Before the 8 weeks was up, if he would have a spell, I knew what to do - and did it. Our NICU let the parents be very hands on. However, I spent every minute wondering if he was going to live. I didn't know if babies that early survived.
At 7 weeks, they realized that the spells weren't stopping, and double checked everything - he had a heart mummer (sp?). They found out that he had PDA (more blood flows into the lungs than normal) because the vessel that is supposed to close at birth didn't. This said this is common, but is generally diagnosed before 2 weeks old, and medicine can take care of it. So, at 7 weeks, he had surgery, and they put on a little metal clamp. The next morning, not one spell of apnea, or heart decels. He had his circumcision four days later, and then was sent home!! And he's been our angel every since. They tell you all of the things that could be wrong (or not perfect) with your preemie, and I read about all of them. I was prepared for what God was giving me. Turned out - Nic is perfect. He just turned 16 months old, and started walking last week (perfect for his adjusted age). And now he is running all over my house, yelling - singing, and dancing.
Well, long story short - I really wish you and your family the best... Our children are gifts... no matter what.
If you need anything - please don't hesitate to ask!
P.S. I am putting a pic on my blog of Nic - to show you that 28 weekers ROCK!

My wife and I have the "it's normal" conversation every day. 8 weeks is a really short time when you think about it, but when you see a little child struggling for everything, time means very little.
We have the heart issues (they are called Bradys), and it freaks us out each time it happens. DS1 averages about one every 5-10 hours. DS2 is about one every 18 hours. We are assured as they grow this fixed itself. Only twice has a nurse had to "stimulate" to get heartrate back up (the other times the kids do it within 15-30 seconds). Our NICU is among the best in the world, so I have faith in the doctors.
The first two nights I was on my knees crying to spare them the pain and discomfort. It appears those prayers have been answered. Outside of the feeding tube, they are doing quite well.
One day at a time. Forgetting the bad and cherishing the good.
